Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to AVIF lose quality?

AVIF is a lossy format, so the encoder re-compresses the image. swapfile.io uses a high default quality; for photos the difference is not visible in normal use.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser. You can open your browser's network tab and verify no request carries your file.

What happens to the metadata?

Re-encoding through the browser produces a clean file: EXIF, GPS and C2PA metadata are not carried over to the output.
