Does converting HEIC to PNG lose quality?

No. PNG is a lossless format: the decoded pixels are stored exactly, so nothing beyond the original encoding is lost.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser. You can open your browser's network tab and verify no request carries your file.

What happens to the metadata?

Re-encoding through the browser produces a clean file: EXIF, GPS and C2PA metadata are not carried over to the output.
